The Short-Term Care Facility
HIV-positive Children in dire health conditions and/or with emotional trauma due to loss or neglect and abuse are referred to our Short-Term Care Facility. Here, these children receive 24/7 home-based care for up to 3 years.
While they are in our care, our social work team works with known family or searches to find if the child has any extended family that they can be resettled with.
The Short-Term Care Facility is a place where broken hearts are mended, Truth is spoken, belonging is cemented and hope for the future is cultivated.
While in our Short-Term Care Facility, our medical team closely watches and works with their physical condition, our counselor helps navigate through emotional trauma, and our
team of loving Aunties who work as a temporary mother figure disciple the children and help them grow spiritually.
There are many children living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda and lacking either the appropriate medical attention to meet their vulnerable state, a loving family to nourish and care for them, or both. With the changes made to the structure of our Short-Term Care Facility (perviously known as Cherish Homes) we hope to see many kids transition through our open beds and live transformed, redeemed lives. An first for many Many of the children who come into our care have never slept in a bed of their own before so we try to make their space inviting and restful.
