Education
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
~Wiliam Butler Yeats~
Orphaned and abandoned children living with HIV in Uganda are often denied the opportunity to attend school. From a young age, their status dictates against access to opportunities that would strengthen and secure their futures as they are believed not to have a future. Where there is access to education for these children, it is often experienced in overcrowded and under-resourced government schools. Due to abject poverty, children are often educated one year and not the next, in order to give each child in a household the chance to incrementally learn.
These are the children that Cherish Uganda seeks to educate and pull from the shadows of society in order to ignite in each one an imagination and a dream for their future. It is their dreams that we steward. The dreams of our children today are the bedrock of our nation tomorrow and we believe that leaders, shapers, influencers and world changers live in the spirits of our children. That is why we want to provide education, influence education through the Teacher Training Network and to influence the education agenda and approach in Uganda at large.
Cherish Uganda's education is about taking the least likely to access education and setting them in an environment where dreams come alive, imaginations grow, creativity is celebrated, critical thinking is encouraged and leaders are made.
