Prayer Request for Jan. 14th

Prayer Request for Tomorrow’s Elections

Uganda’s elections are being held on Thursday, January 14th. Uganda’s current President, Museveni, is one of the longest-serving African presidents who came into power at the end of a five-year war. President Museveni has been in power for 35 years and is facing Bobi Wine, a popular opposition candidate.

This election season has already been more violent than previous years we’ve seen in Uganda: over 50 people have already died in related events.

Will you please join us in prayer for the country of Uganda and those we serve at Cherish Uganda this week? Please pray for wisdom and discernment for those in leadership positions. Pray for peace rather than unrest. We pray against lies and for truth. We pray for justice.

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.
— Jeremiah 29:12

"Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you." Jeremiah 29:12

Uganda has currently shut down social media and WhatsApp during the election period and the internet is moving slowly for our staff. Please pray for reliable communication with our staff on the remaining communication channels we have to remain updated.

As for precautions we’re taking: we have 2 months worth of supplies, food and necessities onsite. We also have key staff members temporarily living on-site to avoid commuting during these times of unrest. In addition, we have extra security staff members working at all hours.

Thank you for your thoughts & prayers!

Sincerely,

Brent Phillips & the Cherish Uganda family
